Counselling and Psychotherapy for Individuals, Couples and Groups.

About Me

Hi there I'm Russ!

I am a fully qualified counsellor and therapist, with a post graduate diploma in Transactional Analysis (TA), which has its foundations in exploring people’s “life scripts”. This is how our upbringing and early childhood experiences shape our thoughts, feelings and behaviours as we progress through our life.

I offer a warm, empathetic, and safe space to help you process and understand what is going on for you, perhaps there has been a change in circumstances, or there are past or present issues to explore.

I also draw on my knowledge and experience of different modalities, such as Person-Centred counselling and CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), when I believe these can support you to develop more understanding, new skills, and coping strategies. This will aid you in personal growth to make the changes in your life that you want to.

My vision is to help you with new beginnings and healthy endings, through listening and validating your experiences.

I work with individuals and couples that may have: Co-parenting issues, blended families, difficulty with communication, may need strategies to manage tough patches and need help with future planning. I provide a safe space for each person to be heard.

As a member of COSCA I fully adhere to their strict code of ethics ensuring confidentiality. I also have regular supervision for my own reflections and regularly attend CPD courses to increase my development as a counsellor and therapist.

I am also undertaking a BSc degree in Mental Health Nursing.

My name and logo represent how we are always "riding the waves" as we progress through our lives. The sea can be very unpredictable and uncertain with lots of ups and downs, smooth in some places and rough in others. I will help you to navigate through these difficult times, achieving a healthier outcome that, at the moment, may seem far off in the distance.

About You

Perhaps you are having relationship difficulties or struggling with changes in your circumstances and need help to process and deal with these?

Maybe you are feeling anxious, stuck, scared, or depressed?

Are you fearful and afraid to ask for help? Maybe you feel isolated and that you have no-one to talk to?

You may have historical, or current issues concerning abuse, anxiety, depression, grief, family related issues, trauma.

If you would like to contact me, we can arrange an initial free 30 minute appointment over the phone or via video call, where we can meet and see how I can help you. We can then decide if we would like to begin working together!

What I can offer

Face to Face

I offer in person counselling and psychotherapy in a warm, safe, comfortable and confidential space.

Online

I also offer counselling and therapy sessions online via Zoho (very similar to Zoom), which is a secure platform. The counselling process is still very effective and we will still do a lot of personal work together.

Over the phone

Counselling and therapy sessions are still effective over the telephone and you will still be able to do the work that you are wanting to achieve!

Couples

I offer counselling and psychotherapy for couples who may be going through difficulties due to a variety of reasons. Gentle exploration and guidance which allows each person to have their own 'airtime' to express themselves in a holding and safe space.

Walk and Talk

Being out in nature, as most of us know, has its own healing properties. The landscape itself can be used as a catalyst for effective therapeutic change, exploring connections and metaphors in the environment may help you to articulate thoughts, feelings or emotions that otherwise could have seemed difficult and hard to express.

Group

Group therapy sessions can be incredibly healing, offering those who may have difficulties expressing themselves individually. They will find others that are there to support and who may be feeling what they are feeling! With gentle encouragement and guidance I ensure this is a open, honest  and safe space for all.

If you are feeling unhappy, have a sense or know that you need to address certain issues to improve your life, please get in touch.

 - Michael Holding (University student and neurodivergent)

"I have just completed 10 counselling sessions with Russell and I feel we had a great rapport. He has been extremely professional, caring, understanding, supportive and empathetic. He has given me the skills to find my own answers and look at things in a differnet way. undoubtedly the most valuable thing he has taught me to recognise is the importance of self care. Thanks to him I am practicing this as a part of daily life now and it's this that is helping me cope, not only with the day to day, but helping me look towards a more positive future."

- Amanda Smith (Hotelier)
